It’s a bit of a shame, but when Txomin and Arthur are hibernating, is when their enclosure is looking its best. Following the dry summer months when the grass dries out and the plants die, autumn brings colder, wetter spells (though not too wet in Barcelona thankfully) and the grass begins to grow back and weeds and plants sprout up. However, the boys are fast asleep and don’t get to see just how good their house is looking and all the tasty food readily available.
That being said, mummy decided that even though they will be blissfully unaware, they will have their own form of Christmas tree this year! So, proudly stood next to the house, that they apparently don’t like and don’t want to sleep in, is a decorated conifer, star and all. Mummy thinks they would approve, though likely try and eat the baubles if awake.
Mummy also took the opportunity to take a Christmas photo of the boys when they were last woken up and bathed, so thought it an opportune moment to share it and wish everyone, on behalf of the Aranguren-Smedley, a very happy Christmas 2018, happy Hogmanay and here’s to a great 2019.
P.S. No tortoises were harmed during the photo shoot, though neither of the boys were amused at posing next to homemade sock snowmen or a large Catalan log that poops presents – only if you feed it – though you can’t tell…can you?!
