February 2016 - Perhaps it was a sign of what to come, but when the tortoises were delivered, one of them promptly urinated what seemed to be rather a lot of liquid for such a small reptile, all down the pet shop owners hand and on the white parquet flooring (It should be made clear here, that from the outset, though mummy had slightly misunderstood whether lovely husband was going to be thrilled with their new pets, she definitely knew that they would have to live outside and the incident took place whilst the pet shop owner was carrying the tortoises out to the terrace).
Mummy, though slightly freaked out by the copious amount of chalky looking liquid dribbling down the pet shop owners arm, was way too excited to meet her new pets that she mistakenly took this to be an act of nerves on the tortoises part at their joy on arriving at their new home and not an indication of just how much tortoises can wee!
Slightly enthusiastic daughter was not quite sure what to make of either the new pets or her mummy who couldn’t stop giggling and seemed to be experiencing a bought of verbal diarrhoea, asking question after question to the poor pet shop owner.
Once he’d gone and mummy had calmed down a bit, not very impressed daughter managed to take a photo of mummy happily clutching Doris and Arthur, named after mummy’s grandparents. It then took her a while to persuade mummy to come back inside, stop staring and marvelling at the tortoises and please put her to bed – she could visit the tortoises again in the morning!
